Hurricane season officially starts June 1. Most Houston gutters we see in May have a season's worth of oak pollen and last fall's leaves still in them.
What a clogged gutter does in a hurricane
- Water spills over the fascia and rots the wood behind it
- It pours directly against the foundation instead of out the downspout
- Saturated soil around the foundation lifts and cracks slabs over time
- Backflow can force water under shingles along the roof edge
The pre-storm checklist
- Every downspout flushing clear (run a hose, watch the bottom)
- No standing water in any run after a rain
- Fascia dry to the touch after a storm
- Splash blocks or extensions routing water at least 4 feet from the house
If you don't want to get on the ladder
Fair. A full Houston gutter clean starts at $179 for a single-story home — we hand-scoop, bag, flush every downspout, and send you photos of the finished work. The whole thing takes us about an hour.
